Bowie is a cool as a cucumber little Canadian ranch horse that came to us all the way from Alberta, Canada. Only 5 years old, he was used specifically as a pack horse for the first few years in his life and then was auctioned off, so he came to moonrise to start his new life as our lead cowpony..just in case we ever to get cows:)
Zephyr came to moonrise in 2003. He is a 16h Andalusian who had been in a terrible accident and then brought to a slaughter bound sale. He was very thin and had a huge recovery in front of him. Zephyr has healed from a fractured pelvis, fractured pole and many other emotional issues from being starved. He is now thriving and enjoying his forever home.

Koi is a 15y/o Arabian gelding who was lovingly rehomed to Moonrise. He came with classic Arab inquisition, grace and stunning beauty. He is a great companion and an amazing trail leader!

Jackson is a 10y/o Appaloosa Mustang from central Wyoming. He is an absolutely stunning beauty who is 16hh and close to 1800# of all love.
Jackson’s calm demeanor and friendliness brings both confidence and nostalgia to our Sanctuary.

Sunshine, a 20y/o Welsh was mindfully rehomed with us as a very loved, accomplished magical horse. He is an absolute leader and diva and takes all the new rescues out on trail with complete confidence!

Bebe is Moonrise’s only Jenny donkey (currently) and she is most definitely in charge. As the saying goes, Bebe gets what Bebe wants. She came to us after being separated from her mom at a slaughter bound sale and unfortunately was only 3 months old. While touchy at first with her survival, she spent a week in our wonderful veterinarian’s clinic. Now 6 years old, Bebe is thriving!
“TigerMan” came to us happenstance thinking we were headed off to purchase a healthy trail horse to help with guiding our rescue’s confidently out on the trails. When we arrived to purchase him what we came across was a starved, neglected beautiful soul. He is a beautiful 15y/o Grulla that had the kindest of souls. He had bonded with Poncho and is recovering so well. His recovery will take a long time as his body was completely starved.

Lucci and Figgy are our only two OG mini donkeys. They are know as Sicilian Donkeys and are really the fellas in charge. They are the sweetest of boys!

Enzo & Franny are Moonrise’s 2 BLM burros from Nevada HMA’s. While they came in from separate round-ups, they are the bestest of buddies who wrestle with each other like dogs do! It’s very sweet and we are so happy they are here and safe.
Rocco came to Moonrise Sanctuary in 2024 from a slaughter bound sale pen. He is such a little delight and treasure to our farm. Did you know that hundreds of donkeys wind up in slaughter bone auctions each month in this country? We are so grateful Rocco has made it to moonrise sanctuary!

These 3 beautiful fellas came from separate slaughter bound sales located across the country. And they wound up here and bonded so strong they have been dubbed the three amigos. They each have a very unique history. One of them definitely an Amish discard for hiring, the second was most likely a trail horse and the third bagali. I bet you he wants some huge rodeo buckles. He’s got a booty the size of a Mac truck and has a spin that only professionals know.
We’re still finding a lot about these guys welcome poncho, lefty, Charlie!
